Paul’s Writing
One of the many things I do to still the voices in my head (technically, the voices are in Melinda’s head, but as long as SOMEBODY shuts up, it’s a good day!) is to write fiction. I have written dozens of short stories, several collections, a non-fiction poker book, and completed a much anticipated novel (anticipated mostly by me), Posse Whipped. I decided to start creating stories after reading some of my late brother’s work. He started writing late in life and it inspired me to do the same. I have always been an illustrator. It just seemed easier to create pictures in peoples’ minds than on paper. Boy, was I wrong!
Books by Paul K. Metheney:
- Posse Whipped – a novel about a southern sheriff, his town, and his family and the occasionally humorous, but typically dangerous, situations they battle to survive in modern-day Kentucky.
- Concepts for Texas Hold’em – a non-fiction look at strategy and poker etiquette for beginner casino players or mid-level poker enthusiast.
- That Boy Ain’t Write in the Head – a collection of my best short stories to date
- Two Minds, No Waiting – a collaboration with Steve Rouse combining two collections of science fiction short stories from two very twisted minds.
Short Stories by Paul K. Metheney:
You can see some of my currently published short stories published by Left Hand Publishers here:
- Beautiful Lies, Painful Truths Vol. I – I have two short stories in that. One called “The Fall,” in which a man stands on the edge of suicide and questions God’s power. In an actual conversation. “The Bet” features two immortal entities wagering on the same man’s life or death.
- Beautiful Lies, Painful Truths Vol. II – In BLPT II, I have two stories I compressed into a single one with two parts. In “The Truth in the Dark,” we follow a serial killer. The second part, “What Lies in the Dark,” is a supernatural thriller of the detectives investigating those killings.
- Classics ReMixed Vol. I – is an anthology of stories that spins well-known tales. I have written a disturbing twist to the Rapunzel story. Melinda still won’t talk about it.
- Classics ReMixed Vol. II – is the sequel to Classics ReMixed Vol. I. I have two short stories in this. “The Dark Knightmare” eviscerates the superhero origin story. “Upon A Star” retells the Pinocchio story in 1940’s New York and even includes gender-bending time travel. Who says I’m not versatile?
